Our statement of faith simply states what we believe as
a Christian Church.
At EastPointe, we believe everything the Bible
teaches. We believe that the Bible is God’s word spoken directly
through His chosen messengers. We believe that the Bible is
inspired, accurate and the final authority. Therefore, everything we
believe is taken directly from the word of God (Psalm 119:9-16; I
Timothy 4:13; II Timothy 3:16,17; II Peter 1:20-21)
- God
We believe that God is the
Creator and Sustainer of the universe. God manifests Himself in
three persons: The Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. We believe that
God desires a personal relationship with every person created.
(Genesis 1 & 2; John 14:15-21;
Colossians 3:15-23)
- Sin
We believe that sin
separates us from God. Sin is any conscious thought or action that
displeases God. Sin entered the world through Adam who disobeyed God in
the garden of Eden. We are imperfect people in need of One who can
save us from sin. (Genesis 3; Romans
3:22-24; Romans 5:12-13)
- Jesus
We believe that Jesus
is the Son of God, conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin
Mary; that He was both fully human and fully divine. He was
sinless and gave His life for the sins of the world through His cruel
and merciless death on a cross. He arose bodily from the dead on
the third day and sits at the right hand of His father and our father,
God. Jesus is the only way to the Father. (John 1:14; John 3:16; II Peter 2:18; Luke
1:26-38; Hebrews 1:1-4; John 14:1-7)
- The
Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit is the very presence of God
and Jesus. The Holy Spirit comes and takes up residence in the heart of
everyone who accepts Jesus as Lord and Savior.
The Holy Spirit is
called the “person” of God. The Holy Spirit’s role is to convict the
world of sin, to draw the seeker to the Lord, to comfort, to counsel, to
direct and to equip every believer with gifts to accomplish the will of
God. (John 6:44; John 14:1-7; John
16:5-15; Acts 2:38; Galatians 5:22-23)
- Salvation
Jesus was sent to
earth for one purpose, to save people from their sins. Everyone is
in need of a Savior. The Bible teaches that we are “…saved by
grace, through faith, and this is not of our own ability, rather it is a
gift from God.”
Salvation comes through hearing the word of God
and believing what it says; acknowledging our sinful condition and
repenting of our sin, sharing our need and acceptance of Jesus, being
baptized into Jesus and receiving the gift of His Holy Spirit. (Ephesians 2:1-10; Romans 3:10-24; Romans
6:1-14; Acts 2:36-41)
- Discipleship
Every person
who accepts Jesus as Savior and Lord needs a pathway for growth in their
personal relationship with Him. A small group or one-on-one
teaching allows the new believer to study and apply the word of God to
all of daily life while enjoying fellowship and encouraging
accountability. Discipleship helps the new believer discover their life
mission and learn how to share the saving message of Jesus with others.
(Matthew 28:19-20; Acts 2:42-47; II
Timothy 2:15)
- The Church
Simply put, the
church is God’s family on earth. The church is a community of believers
that provides an environment of encouragement and growth. Within
the church there are “mini-churches” that we refer to as “Pointe Groups”
which allow for deeper friendships, study, prayer and the meeting of one
another’s needs.
Therefore, the church can continue to grow
larger and smaller at the same time. The Bible says “…not to
forsake the gathering of the assembly.” This is written for our benefit.
By gathering weekly we experience the blessings of true community.
(Acts 2:42-47; Galatians 6:10; Hebrews
10:24-25)
